Design and Book

This 12 ft skiff was designed by Rihard Kolin for Woodenboat. Design is available as a step by step instructions book. The book is called Traditional Boatbuilding Made Easy - a 12 foot skiff for oar and sail. It is available from good boat book stores and Woodenboat.

As well as step by step instructions the book gives lots of diagrams. The diagrams are pretty good, I've only needed to scrach my head a few times to try and work out what was going on.

I'm not following the book exactly. The design and book is for a clinker style boat. I'm fully gluing and sealing everything, I surpose that makes it lapstrake style.

So far I've used mohogony for the stem and transom with red cedar for the planking and bottom. The structural fit out is mahogony and I've yet to pick the seating timber.

All the timber has come from Lazarides Timber Agencies, Kingsford Smith Drive, Eagle Farm, Australia.

I'm using a boat two part epoxy glue and coating called BoatCoat. It comes from Boatcraft Pacific.

I've just got another book which is an excellent source of information. It is Building Small Boats by Greg Rossel also published by Woodenboat.

I got both books from Boat Books Australia, Albert Street, Brisbane.

I've bought all my fittings from Muir Marine at Wynnum.
