Step IV - Bottom

These pictures where taken when the bottom was half on. Work started at the tramsom and worked forward.

The bottom boards are red cedar and are placed side by side. Each board is glued to the chine/garboard and the one each side of it. This was a tedious process as each board was individually clamped in place while the glue cured. There are over 20 boards.

Again the nice power plane was invaluable. Some of the boards had warped and needed straightening to keep the glue lines thin.

I used a combination of the power plane and a belt sander to fair the bottom with the sides. I used the belt sander to smooth off the bottom.
